ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
AVERILL VICTORIA:
Averill is a classically trained painter who started working in acrylic and watercolour at the age of fourteen and later began digital art in 2018. Her work blends realism, impressionism, and digital techniques which open windows into life’s quiet moments and invite us to pause, explore, and drink them in.
Art begets art. Averill’s Female Orgasm series was inspired in part by an episode of the Netflix docu-series Explained, and in part by the strong, empowering, sex-positive women and performers the series features. This work illustrates and celebrates sensations, metaphors, and feelings that women experience during orgasm.
Most of the models in Female Orgasm are from Vancouver, BC, where Averill lives. The series is as much a product of Averill’s own journey as it is an invitation for you to pause, explore, and drink in your own orgasmic moments.
JUSTINA KERVEL:
Born and raised for most of her life in the Lower Mainland, Justina has been painting with oils since around the age of 7. Taught by her Opa, who was a master oil painter from Holland, Justina was always encouraged by family and friends to create and knew at a young age how she could affect people with art. Every piece of art created is not only a piece of her, but she tries to evoke a feeling that every one of us has felt at one time in our lives. Much as the way we all feel as we listen to a song, watch a film or hear a poem, Justina wants to relate to every human emotion and take you back to that time as you look at a piece of art. Art is amazing in any form and it is for that very reason of bringing people together, whether in emotions or a thought, Justina creates. Art has been many things to Justina, but it’s how it can capture an audience that really pushes her.
KATHRYN MCPHEE:
With a sharp eye for colour and a quirky sense of humour, East Vancouver-based artist Kathryn McPhee’s vibrant portraits and mixed media prints have quickly earned a loyal following. Applying elements of graffiti and animation as inspiration, Kathryn uses a broad palette that includes oil pastels, acrylics and spray paint to add density and texture to her pieces.
Kathryn has been drawing and painting since she was old enough to pick up a pencil. Over the years, growing interest in her pieces has allowed Kathryn to take her passion to the next level. She creates privately commissioned work almost daily at Vancouver’s Arts Factory Society and has showcased her pieces at numerous galleries and restaurants.
Kathryn’s most recent collections include a series of eccentric animal portraits and animated celebrity paintings. All of her works boast unique elements inspired by street art and surrealism to create truly one-of-a-kind pieces.
LISA ATTERBURY:
With dedication and patience, Lisa Atterbury has focused on taking pointillism to a whole new level. With her high contrast artwork created entirely by overlapping dots made with a sharpie, Lisa uses realistic images as a reference to create large scale pieces. In the last 10 years, Lisa has gained a large supportive network in Vancouver and throughout Canada with her original artwork.
Lisa has been drawing since she was 5 years old, and while learning about pointillism in her Interior Design Program in Alberta, she fell in love with the art form and has been focused on creating artwork that her audience connects with ever since.
Best known for her Hall of Fame Musicians series, which have been showcased around Vancouver over the years, Lisa is also known as the resident Artist for Score on Davie and Score on King (Toronto) with her unique branded quotes and liquor logos for their vibrant pub locations.
Lisa’s most recent artwork is ‘Inspired by the Screen’; a showcase collection portraying some of the best movies of each decade.
